Around the world many of the oldest steam locomotives which survived in regular service could be found on the sugar mill lines. India was no exception, as illustrated by the bright red Vulcan 4-4-0 at the Saraya Sugar Factory at Sardar Nagar. Built by Vulcan in 1884, the narrow-gauge engine was 105 years old when it shuffled past a yoke of oxen pulling a cart on December 2, 1989.
